Flourish Excel is a source of bioavailable organic carbon. All plants require a carbon source. This is typically obtained from CO2, but can also be derived from simple organic compounds (such as photosynthetic intermediates). Flourish Excel also has iron-reducing properties that promote the ferrous state of iron (Fe+2), which is more readily used by plants compared to ferric iron (Fe+3). Flourish Excel dosing prevents the involvement of CO2 and introduces structurally similar compounds already completed. It is in its structural similarity that Flourish Excel can be used in the process of building the carbon chain of photosynthesis. Simple chemical or enzymatic steps can easily convert it into any of the above-mentioned compounds (or a variety of others).
